Here’s why this is important: Sometimes you can have too much of a good thing!

Read on to find out how and why I’m helping my clients to take meaningful action, rather than getting paralysed in overwhelm.

Whilst on maternity leave I have constantly been thinking about my business and using the time I’ve had to up level and learn more to be of service.

And to those of you panicking about my health when you read this, don’t worry: I also napped, watched a lot of Netflix, ate a lot of chocolate and rested too!

One of the things I read was Retention Point by Robert Skrob, to get tips on how to grow and maintain my Just Start Now community.

One of the key learnings from the book was this:

Value is like water. Too much is just as bad as too little.

When I read this, it struck hard.

For months now in my business I have been acutely aware that I produce far too much content. It’s something people have pointed out to me – both audience members and mentors and coaches too.

I had hours of free training saved in units in what was my free Facebook group. But barely anyone watched them.

I send replays of my Masterclasses but no-one accesses them.

I have a huge amount of resources in my membership, but I can see how few people log-in to watch them.

I have multiple free video resources but my stats show people don’t watch through to the end.

The trouble is when it comes to content creation, I adore doing it.

There’s nothing I love more than noticing what people are struggling with and creating trainings and resources to solve the problem (which, by the way, is what you should be doing too if you want a successful business: spotting problems and offering solutions).

However, what is more important to me than creating endless content that solves every manner of issue and pain-point, is that you not only use the content but that you start taking action.

My whole mantra and ethos is based on starting now. And I truly believe I’ve created an awesome set of resources to help you do just that, drawing from my own experience and success in building a flexible business of my own.

But the problem is, if I just keep creating more and more resources, all I’m doing is adding to the problem rather than solving it.

Because too much value leaves people overwhelmed, confused, distracted and procrastinating as they sift through everything on offer and wonder where to start.

When there is too much on offer, your customers end up searching for alternatives or struggling to feel they’ll ever climb the mountain and complete the journey of getting their business set up and thriving. Which means they take no action.

That’s not helping anyone.

The people I help (someone just like you!) is already feeling overwhelmed. I don’t want to add to that. I want to cut through it.

So I’ve made a bold commitment.

No more trainings. No more videos. No more content being added to my resources or membership this year.

There’s already 50+ hours organised into units for my Just Start Now course and community.

That’s more than enough to get any brilliant entrepreneur started, I know it’s everything I wish I’d had when I got started.

Of course I’ll still produce social media posts (I love a good graphic!) and write blog posts like these.

But my commitment is this: no more training and learning content.

Instead I want to focus this year on getting you to take action on what is already there first. Because what I’ve already produced is really good (if I do say so myself) and will get you the results you’re looking for. I just need to help you take those steps.

Health and wellness business

I think there’s a lesson in here for you too.

Many people when they’re starting a business think they must constantly give give give and create content endlessly.

From the outside it looks like that’s what everyone else does to be successful. If you’re getting your wellness business started you may well be ploughing all your time and energy into producing content: recipes, e-books, webinars, social media posts, blog posts… sound familiar?

To get started yes of course it’s great to have these things. But doing this exclusively is exhausting. And ultimately creating MORE doesn’t mean people are actually doing anything with what you’ve already given then.

And if they’re not taking steps, making changes and implementing what you’re sharing with them, they’re not going to see results. Which means ultimately they’re not going to stick around.

I will be the first to admit I have used content creation as an excuse to hide from selling, connecting with real people and being visible in my business.

It’s much safer to write PowerPoints and prepare trainings than go out and talk to people and potentially be rejected, right?

But we aren’t being of service when we do that.

So I hope you’ll join me in cutting back on your content creation in 2021. Because value is like water: too much is just as bad as too little.

What we want is to offer change and transformation in the people we help. And more content isn’t the answer.

Let me know what you think. Is there such a thing as too much value?
